Kid ID FAQs
Who started KID ID?
KID ID was started in 1994 in New Iberia, Louisiana by Dr. Robert Chastant, a local orthodontist who developed this innovative concept. As an active member of his community, Dr. Chastant was aware that his community did not have an organized manner in which to properly ID children. At the time, only ink and paper fingerprinting were done at business promotions and fairs.
He started researching computer technology coupled with capturing
digital photos and electronic fingerprinting. Over the years, Dr.
Chastant has perfected his original idea with the KID ID program. In
fact, it is recognized as an outstanding new process by the New Iberia
Sheriff office and the local school board. To date, Dr. Chastant has
protected over 17,000 children in Iberia Parish, Vermillion Parish, and
soon to be St.
Mary and Lafayette Parishes. Dr. Chastant is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontics.
